NOVEMBER 2024 Trip Report
November Weigh In!
Well that is the 2024 Competition Season Done & Dusted!!
Once again the variety of fish species presented at this month’s weigh In was amazing. With some intriguing catches such as a 1,050 mm Barracuda caught of Teewah Beach by John Hollingworth, an interesting weigh-in to say the least.
Conditions for inshore & offshore fishing were great despite some early storms about on Saturday morning once those fronts had moved through it glassed out and particularly the Straits were mill pond flat. The quality of fish presented was once again extremely high.
Junior competition
A great role up of Junior Competitors weigh in at this month’s comp with Benny Stafford presenting a good mixed bag of fish, scoring 11 points, narrowly edging out Ollie Pearce on 11 points as Benny presented a wider variety of species with first time Junior Competitor Blake Findlater taking 3rd place with 5 points.
It was great to see a good role up of junior spectators checking out the weigh-in, with Kasey Findlater taking out the Junior Tackle prize pack supplied by Rainbow Beach Boat Hire.
Inshore Competition
The variety of fish produced from the straits and the beach continues to amaze with Flathead, Mangrove Jack Tailor, Trevally, Tarwhine, Whiting, Bream, & Dart being weigh in. John Hollingworth 38 points presented a great mixed bag to win in the inshore category, with Chris McRae returning to the winners circle in 2nd place with 30 and Darrly Wandery in 3rd place with 16 points. Helaine Wilesmith and Deb Regan also posting points to keep the score board ticking over and fighting neck and neck in the overall Female Competition with both on 35 points, Heliane will edge Deb out for first place with fewer fish 23 versus Deb’s 29.
Off Shore Competition
The offshore conditions were highly variable with early storms going through on Saturday in close was the order of the day!
The quality species weighed in was fantastic with Grassy Sweetlip, Moses Perch, Pearl Perch, Snapper and Hussar being weighed in. Jim McGuckin & Vince Sturdy stayed in close collecting a great mixed bag.
Jim McGuckin took out 1st Place on 12 points with Patrick Glover 2nd on 6 points and 3rd place tied up with Joh Hooker and Stuart Peall both accumulating 5 points, the tie breaker came into play with John presenting a wider variety of species.
